Social Studies with Mrs. Sayers
Social Studies in the Sayers Room
Middle school social studies is new to me this year and we are doing some exciting projects to bring history to life! The 4th graders have studied Nebraska cities, counties, and the US regions. After learning about each region they chose their favorite, found photos of that area, and made snapshot slides to attract tourists to those areas. Now, in the 2nd quarter, we are diving into the history of Nebraska and the Native Americans that originated here. This will lead to some interesting investigations and projects to come!
In US History, the 5th graders started learning the states and capitals. They studied the landscapes of the United States and made a landform diorama. Transitioning from geography to history, they are learning about the first people of the area. Be watching the school Facebook page for their floating gardens and totem poles that will be coming soon!
Sixth graders are studying the first humans that roamed the earth in world history. They were able to take the information they read about the homosapiens and write their own children’s book! From here, we will move into ancient civilizations of the world. I look forward to the inquiry projects of ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, India, and China!
